This is the show / party I’ve been dying to plan. Think Dave Chappelle’s block party with a singer/songwriter/rocker/country/hip-hop twist. Everyone that comes gets a CD and special gifts from a few artists.
Heres how it all came about… The up-and-coming album, The Light Show, is set to be released later this year, however I have been composing while waiting for the album’s national drop date. On Feb 12th (my birthday!) I am releasing some of the brand new material to my NYC family (as well as including a single and some possible remixes of the Light Show). The other bands on the bill are truly great artists that I have been playing with for quite some time. Come down celebrate, hang, and network. Cool people, cool room, and cool music. Adv tix are discounted too….
PAULINE PISANO
www.paulinepisano.com
http://www.myspace.com/paulinepisano
Pauline Pisano has been receiving praise for her profoundly unusual voice from critics and fans alike. An edgy romantic singer/songwriter with an unexpected pop/rock twist,” she has pipes that are rare and impressive with a range that sails easily from the basement to the heavens.” (Debra Donahue, the Cape-May Times). However, it is Pauline’s unique sense of story and melody that have led her to win several national and international songwriting awards including The Father Fame Award, The American Theater Wing’s Rising Stars Award and the honor of being a featured soloist at Alice Tully Hall.
Players include Rich Mercurio, Arthur Sadowsky, Dan Weiner, Jessie Reagen Mann, and Neeley Bridges
DANICA DORA

Danica Dora has been a singer-songwriter since she was born. As a child she made recordings on her casio tape box, promising the world she would one day sit atop the throne of musical genius. Today, she is emerging as a infectious new presence on the New York music scene, having played sold-out engagements at Joe’s Pub, the New York Songwriter’s Circle, the Knitting Factory, Rockwood Music Hall and the Laurie Beechman Theatre among others, to critical acclaim. “With a voice like that and great songs to boot, I sense good things on the horizon.” – jezebelmusic.com.

I’ve been noticing a recent trend in concerts today… Over the last year I caught some of my favorite performers: Oasis, Tori Amos, and Sarah McLachlan. All of these artists sounded amazing. The shows were completely flawless. My only complaint was that although each artist recently released a brand new album they only played a small selection of the new material. Considering how much I loved Dig Out Your Soul, Abnormally Attracted To Sin, and Laws of Illusion I was a little disappointed.
Perhaps things got too big. Perhaps there are too many fans to have to please. I mean these artists have bills to pay too. I think we need to be more active listeners and really inform ourselves of what our favorite artists are currently putting out and be open to hear something new. I mean it takes a lot of effort to listen to the unfamiliar, but like working out, it will get easier if we put in the energy. And perhaps us artists need to be more aware of what we are currently putting out in the collective. We cant live in the past. We cant play in the past. Its one thing to play a favorite or two, but to end with popular songs from 10 years ago makes a statement, especially when the new material is super strong and can hold up to it, if not exceed it. We need to be clear of who we are and not date ourselves for fear of losing popularity.
I will say after this mini rant that in Sarah did introduce her audience to new music, it just wasn’t to hers. I really liked the new artists, but man I would’ve loved to hear her play Love Come instead of Angel. I would’ve loved to hear Heartbreak, Don’t Give Up On Us, and Changes.
All of that being said, a I gotta give Sarah McLachlan and Friends 5 stars for the concert. It might not have included some of Sarah’s new material, but it was a spectacular celebration of female vocalists and songwriters. (I mean, crazy ridiculous voices that I wanna go all Ursula on.) World On Fire sounded absolutely amazing. Next time she rolls through I’ll be getting a ticket.
Sarah if you randomly are reading this I love you and your music. Play more off of your current album because its amazing!
Many of you have been asking when I was going to record Outkast’s Ms Jackson… well, the sound at Crash Mansion was so good that we ended up getting a great live recording of that cover plus a few other tunes. All you need to download is give me your email address.
